Shooting Schedule
This is the schedule that we will be using for our filming. This enables us to know which are the best shots to do in what order. This also ensures that we will get the filming done on time. We decided to do the filming over two days so that we are able to edit our film as son as possible. Also, we found that the best way to film our opening would be in order because the first 8 shots are within the same place. Then the next 6 move to a different place in the woods. So it was most convenient for us to do the shots in the order they will appear within the opening.

Film Pitch
Rebecca, Will, Josh and I made a PowerPoint in order to explain our film. Within this we have included the idea that we are going to use for our film opening. This was then presented along with our pitch.
I have then included the video of my group presenting our pitch to our primary and secondary target audience.
The Pitch
We pitched our filmed called 'Parental Figure', a psychological horror film. About a dad that has become unstable and now lives in isolation after his wife and child dies. Our target audience involves females under 35 for the primary and males under 35 for our secondary. He then has flashbacks and realises that he is the murder of his wife and child. We then move on and talk about the USP of the film and also the casting of characters and where and when the filming will take place. Also, we add in similar films, micro elements which includes, mise-en-scene, performance of actors, editing and sound.
Feedback
Considering the feedback we saw that we have ran into difficulties with our opening. As we decided to include of the main character a male from our year within school. However, he is meant to have killed his wife and child a while ago, he is still then only 16. This will make the film look unrealistic and therefore not receive the audience that we are aiming for. As well as the age for the male we also had the same problem for finding a young female. We need someone to be able to play the daughter within the film but they must look realistic and for both the ages to correspond together. This then means that we are needed to change our cast entirely and think about their ages in real life before we begin to try and fit them within the film. Also, for feedback we ere told to think about lighting more.Obviously with the winter sun the lighting will be shifting very quickly which will cause problems within our filming as we need to film outside for the most part. We decided to film within a woods so there is the possibility that the lighting could be too dark for the audience to see anything or if its too light it won't be seen as a horror and it will be an unrealistic setting. However, the rest of the feedback was positive about our idea and that the films storyline is unique therefore it will achieve a wider audience.
What we will change
Considering all of the feedback we have decided as a group to slightly change the opening with regards to the characters and the lighting. We have decided to cast an older male one with the age of around 25. This would then mean that the actors would fit within the target audience and more people under 35 would therefore be drawn in to watch the film. As well as changing the male actor we are also carefully considering who we can cast for our female child actor, We have decided that the child needed to appear in the film to be of the age of 4 or there about. This would then make the film more heartfelt with a little child included in it. Therefore, we need a child that is of around that age as it would make the film realistic as she would then look like she is the males daughter. Also, the lighting is an issue that was raised within the feedback. We have now decided to go out at a set time of day after visiting there before to see exactly when the best time of day is for us. This would then create the best lighting that would fit with the atmosphere of the film and therefore make it more popular as everything will fit together.

Member Profile
For our demographics of the target audience I have decided to interview Libby Ball as she matches the social class of middle class and she is also under the age of 35 which is our target audience. Also, with her being female she fits in with our primary target audience.
During the interview Libby was asked her attitudes, opinions and interests on relating subjects to media. The interview began by discussing music, TV, films, social media and any additional interests, in order to gather as much information as we can about our genre. We also discussed what she like and dislikes within the film opening the group and I have decided to make.
Music
During the interview Libby was asked her attitudes, opinions and interests on relating subjects to media. The interview began by discussing music, TV, films, social media and any additional interests, in order to gather as much information as we can about our genre. We also discussed what she like and dislikes within the film opening the group and I have decided to make.
Music
Libby enjoys to listen to the older music by Arctic Monkeys and Oasis. However, she does also enjoy listening to chart music. Within films she prefers music that is able to create an atmosphere and changes the tone by changing the music. This is very helpful to our group when editing the film as we now know that our primary target audience likes to have music that also help to change the atmosphere.
However, she dislikes cheesy music like Taylor Swift or Carly Rae Jepsen because it ruins the atmosphere.
TV
TV
Her favourite TV show include murder and horror like the ongoing series 'American Horror Story' because she likes to see if she can solve the mind games. Also, she likes them because it creates suspense when watching it which makes the seasons more interesting. This is again useful information because it shows that our film opening will be popular with our intended target audience. She also enjoys comedic shows like 'Orange is the New Black' this is because she can escape reality and can laugh whilst watching it. This information isn't as helpful as we aren't making a comedy horror but we are still able to see the main things that are liked by our target audience and that escaping reality could be something we could create in our opening. However, Libby doesn't like TV shows like Hollyoaks because they don't look realistic so it causes boredom when watching it.
Films
Films
She enjoys to watch typical teenage films like 'Angus, Thongs and Perfect snogging'. This is because they appear realistic about a typical teenage life and it doesn't look fake for the genre. However, she also enjoys to watch horror films like 'Truth or Dare' because it plays mind games with you though the entire film which creates an uneasy atmosphere which she enjoys to be involved in. But when watching them in the cinema she enjoys them even more because the surround sound creates and even bigger atmosphere. She however isn't interested in Zombie films because she thinks that all of them look fake and it is hard to create a good atmosphere in the film as nobody has had contact with a Zombie and therefore it is hard to create a realistic atmosphere. This information really helps us as it shows that we are needed to make a realistic atmosphere within our film opening meaning the characters ages and acting are important. Also, she likes films with mind games which means that other people of our primary target audience will do as well. Which shows that the chosen subgenre is suitable for our audience.
Social Media
Social Media
Libby enjoys using Twitter and Instagram because it is where she can keep up to date with what is happening around. This means that in order to have a big audience we need to be advertising our film within these social media sites so that more people will want to go and watch it. This would mean that we are going to get as many of our target audience to go and watch it which would cause it to become popular.
Other Interests
Other Interests
Aside of school Libby enjoys to run and compete many weekends and also she loves to read crime based books that also create a few mind games or love based books.
To market my film I think that it would make sense to advertise my film on Fox during the breaks of the horror series that play early morning. This is because it is suitable for the show but also as seen it is what my target audience enjoys so they would be happy to watch the advert after the horror. Also, with them being on early in the morning so children won't watch it.
Opinions on Our Idea
Likes: Libby said that she would want to pay to watch our film rather than just waiting for the film to come out on DVD. Also, she said that she likes the way that the film is being done in a non-linear concept. This is because is it creative compared to may other horror films out there that all appear to be the same. She also said that she like the fact that the first 2 minutes of our film is full of enigma because this creates a lot of suspense with the audience. She also likes our range of different shots that we are aiming to use for the film opening. She believes that they will help to create an atmosphere for the film which will then cause suspense and enigma. But also they will help to show the characters emotions which will be something original within the horror film conventions.

Dislikes: She felt that the base of the story may be hard to follow along if you aren't a usual horror film watcher. As horror films usually have a storyline which is harder to follow along.
Expectations: She expects to find out why the man has become how he is and she understands that it will be subtle in telling the audience. Also, she expects some eerie music to be able to make the story have more enigma within the film. She thinks the casting should represent the themes we are attempting to include in our opening. For example, having a man with a beard to show that he has been living in isolation for quite sometime.

Marketing
For the release date I would release it around the time of Halloween. If this film is released around Halloween we are then likely able to get more people to watch it as Halloween is meant to be scary and so is our film. This would also cause our target audience to widen because Halloween is a holiday for all so we will get many people wanting to come and watch it. I will target my demographic through the use of the editing of the film opening and the iconography to create signs within the film to help with the mind games and creating suspense.

Target Audience Interviews and Focus Groups
Who we spoke to and why?
We spoke to a variety of males and females that were under
35 years of age. We had a focus group that included Dom Frost, Eve Stannard and
Ashley Appleyard all of the age of 15 and middle class. Also, we had a second
focus group including Elley Witt, Ellie Perry and Vikki Rook all of the age of
16 and also middle class. After this we did a series of interviews, these
included Samuel Benzie who is a teacher, in his late twenties (no actual age is
given) and he is also middle class. Sarah Peacock and Jamie Johnson who are
both teachers and both 28 years of age and both middle class. Finally, Jake
Hearn who is 16 years of age and is middle class. We decided to choose these
people because they all fit within our target audience categories. The females
under 35 are our primary target audience and that leaves us with the males
under 35 as our secondary target audience. We thought that including a range of
the primary and secondary target audience because we thought that this would
give us a more accurate result for our findings of which was the preferred
horror subgenre. Also, this meant that with the idea we initially had in mind,
we could adapt it to fit with the preference of each target audience.
Questions asked
We included these questions for each person to answer:
1.
Do you like horror films and why?
2.
What is your favourite horror film and why?
3.
What do you want to see more of in horror films
and why?
4.
Are there any aspects of horror films you don’t
like and why?
5.
Would you like to see more horror films in the
cinemas and why?
6.
Do you have a favourite subgenre, if so what is
it and why?
7.
What was the last horror film you watched and
what did you like and dislike about it?
These allowed us to gather a range of results and therefore
get a range of ideas that the target audience prefers. Also, with the range of
things that the questions covered it allowed us to be able to generate a range
of different ideas using the audience’s feedback.
Key answers
The main finding that we received from interviewing the
range of people was he preferred subgenre. We found that everyone we
interviewed liked horror films because they create suspense and enigma
throughout the film and allows them to be able to keep guessing with what will
happen. Also, the majority of people said that psychological horror films are
their preferred subgenre of horror films because they create mind games
throughout the film from start to finish. We got mix results for what they want
to see more in horror films because some people said they prefer to have more
blood and gore whereas others said that they would like to see more mind games.
This resulted in the same as question 3 where some said they didn’t like as
much gore and some said they didn’t want it to take a while to get into the
film. As already explained the majority said they liked psychological subgenre
because it creates mind games which keeps the audience interested. For the
final question we found that the genre of the last film they watched was either
a psychological horror or a supernatural horror. This then shows us the main
theme for the film opening we should produce in order to receive the best
review from our primary and secondary target audience.
Shaping our ideas
Using the interview we have decided to edge more towards
including a subgenre and having it as a psychological horror. We are intending
to shape our idea on what the people we interviewed said was their favourite
horror film in order to make it the most interesting and liked film. Also, we
are going to include some of the things mentioned for what they would like to
see more of in horror films be able to make a more unique horror film as not
many current horrors include what they have said. Hence why they requested to
see more of it. Using our research and the UK Film Council data we have still
decided to aim it at males and females under 35 because we believe that it will
then benefit a wide range of people and then get the best audience for it.

Preliminary Task
Research and Planning
We have jut finished our preliminary task, however, before we began the task we had to complete some research and planning which ensured that it was the best we could do. We learnt various different camera shots before hand to make sure we knew what they were. We also, drew what all the different shots would show in our books to make it easier for us to perform the shots in the preliminary task. After looking at camera shots we conducted a short script which was to be used within the task. This was so were prepared for the task and didn't make it too hard for us when editing. We was then prepared but before we properly began we watched other peoples preliminary tasks from previous years to makes sure we were completely clear with what we have to do.
Camera Shots and Editing
We used a range of simple techniques for our preliminary task to ensure the continuity of the video. Shot reverse shot was used which is a technique which shows both of the characters when they are in a conversation. For this shot, we used an over the shoulder shot from both peoples point of view and in the editing we made it so it flicked from one persons shoulder, to the other persons and back again. We also used match on action for the editing, this is where filming cuts from one shot to another view that matches the first shot's action. This was used when the actors were entering through the door. With all this in mind we had to remember the 180 degree rule as it is a basic guideline for on-screen relationship between a character and another character for example. This meant when doing the over the should shots we ha to make sure it was filmed from the same side on each character. This editing process was done on Movie Studio Platinum which was pretty basic to use so it allowed us to experiment with different editing techniques.
