Generic Horror Conventions

This is the analysis of the genre that we have picked to focus our film opening on. This prezi shows all of the conventions that are used within horror films. Therefore, it shows us as a group what we should be focusing on when making the film in order for it to fit our genre and for it to fit with a mainstream audience.

  1. Great job - detailed, loads of examples, well discussed and with accurate media terminology throughout. Impressive, but bits to add too:

It's Marion Crane in Psycho! (slide 13)

For characters it starts great then neglects dispatcher, doner, etc. despite saying they generally appear in the genre?! Surely you can find some examples for at least some of the other character types?! Remember Propp initially studied fairy tales too - not films (he died about 100 years ago!)

Costume section good but also note how many horror films include conventional, everyday clothing to add to the realism of the film and thus have more of an impact/fear factor. Same goes for settings, props, etc.

    great narrative and enigma sections

The examples in the Themes section need a bit of discussion

I'd expect a video or 2 for the non diegetic sound section

Cam section great - check spelling (Shining) slide 203

Conclusion - bullet point key conventions identified!
